Plant Sizes & Pricing Guide
What “5-gallon,” “15-gallon,” and “36-inch box” actually mean, which size fits your project, and how to get current pricing from the largest nursery in Desert Hot Springs & Sky Valley.
Trees & shrubs by container size
Nursery plants are sold by the size of the container they’re grown in. Bigger containers mean a bigger, older plant and more instant impact.

| 15 gallon | Established young trees and larger shrubs | Most home yards; trees that establish quickly | Call for price |
| 24″ box | Trees in a wooden box with more height and canopy | Shade and accent trees with presence right away | Call for price |

Bigger isn’t always better
- Smaller trees often establish faster and can catch up to bigger ones within a few seasons.
- Boxed trees are worth it where you need shade or privacy now.
- On windy sites, a well-rooted mid-size tree that’s properly staked often outperforms a huge specimen planted in a hurry.
- Think about access. Large boxes need equipment and room to get into the yard.

It’s the size of the container the tree was grown in. A 15-gallon tree is a young, established tree that’s easy to handle and plant, and it’s the most popular size for home yards.
What’s a 24″ or 36″ box tree?
A larger, older tree grown in a wooden box measured across the top. Box trees give you more height and shade right away.
