Choosing a size

Bigger isn’t always better

  • Smaller trees often establish faster and can catch up to bigger ones within a few seasons.
  • Boxed trees are worth it where you need shade or privacy now.
  • On windy sites, a well-rooted mid-size tree that’s properly staked often outperforms a huge specimen planted in a hurry.
  • Think about access. Large boxes need equipment and room to get into the yard.

Size & pricing FAQ

What does “15 gallon” mean for a tree?

It’s the size of the container the tree was grown in. A 15-gallon tree is a young, established tree that’s easy to handle and plant, and it’s the most popular size for home yards.

What’s a 24″ or 36″ box tree?

A larger, older tree grown in a wooden box measured across the top. Box trees give you more height and shade right away.
