Fruit tree tips for the low desert
Water deep
Soak the whole root zone, then let the top dry slightly. Young trees need more frequent water their first summer.
Protect the trunk
Young trunks can sunburn in full desert sun. Keep low branches or use a trunk wrap until the canopy fills in.
Watch for frost
Cover young citrus on the valley’s rare hard-frost nights.
Time it right
Plant when roots can establish before peak heat. See when to plant.
